Intensifying Cold Grips Nepal as Mercury Plummets

Kathmandu: A noticeable drop in temperatures across the country, including the federal capital Kathmandu, has prompted the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Weather Forecasting Division, to issue a request for precautionary measures to cope with the increasing cold.

Sanjeev Adhikari, a meteorologist at the Division, reported that the minimum temperature in Kathmandu today is 4.5 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 17 degrees Celsius. On Friday, Kathmandu recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius.

The forecast indicates a further decrease in temperatures, with the minimum expected to range from two to four degrees Celsius on Sunday morning. Kathmandu's visibility this morning was recorded at four kilometers. While light snowfall is reported in the high hilly and mountain regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces, significant weather changes are not anticipated for the next three days.

Jumla holds the record for the lowest temperature, registering -5.7 degrees Celsius, compared to -6 degrees on Friday.

The Weather Forecasting Division's bulletin notes the partial influence of westerly winds in Nepal. Presently, the weather remains generally clear in hilly areas, including Koshi, Madhes, and other parts of the country. Fog has been observed in certain Tarai regions.

In the afternoon, partial cloudiness is expected in the hilly regions of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces. There is a possibility of light snowfall in some high hilly and mountain areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.
